Live 105 playlist October 1, 2006

October 1, 2006 was an important date for Live 105: it was the day they celebrated their 20th anniversary. They did so by playing their top 10 songs from each year every hour (although with slight alterations because we can't have people remembering that we once played Creed) mixed in with other songs from those years, calls and sweepers from past Live 105 DJs and a montage of the station's old IDs.

You can relive some of that vintage nostalgia with this entry, where I tuned in when the station was counting down the top songs of...the previous year (Hey, it's over a decade old now, so I guess it counts as vintage.) If you want to see what the rest of the list was like, go here. (Spoiler: "Feel Good Inc" is #1.)

1. Beck- E-Pro (#9)

2. Death Cab for Cutie- Soul Meets Body (#8)

3. Lovemakers- Prepare for the Fight (Bonus song)

4. Green Day- Holiday (#7)

5. Arcade Fire- Rebellion (Lies) (#6)

6. Nine Inch Nails- The Hand That Feeds (#5)

7. Audioslave- Be Yourself (Bonus song)

8. Foo Fighters- Best of You (#4)

9. The Bravery- An Honest Mistake (#3)

10. Queens of the Stone Age- Little Sister (#2)

BONUS: My Live 105 wishlist

Posting the playlists from my old journals reignited my interest in Live 105's history, so I started searching The Wayback Machine and came across some pretty neat stuff that I've since posted here. However, there are certain lists I remember from before I started doing these journals that either I can't find online (not even on RockLists.com) or I did see them on The Wayback Machine, but the links didn't work. However, if anybody happens to be searching this blog and has copies of or knows anything about the following lists, that would be great. I'll even do separate bonus entires on them when/if I get a hold of them.

-2003 Memorial Weekend Count Up: This was a typical "Greatest Live 105 songs" list, except rather than counting down from 105 to 1, they counted up from the top song--which was "Smells Like Teen Spirit," something they made fun of in promos ("Gee, I wonder who's going to be #1?" *Cue "Teen Spirit" riff*)-- to the bottom song on the list (which I think was "Smack My Bitch Up," but I'm not really sure).

-Top 105 American Rock Icons (2005): In 2004, Live 105 bucked the usual trend of stations playing nothing but American music on 4th of July Weekend by playing nothing but British music. Live 105 were a bunch of rascals, you see. A year later, they did a list of the greatest American icons in rock music. Much like the later Bands We're Thankful For list, it was a mixture of Live 105 artists and not-alternative-but-still-legendary acts like The Doors or Ray Charles.

-105 Greatest Songs of the Decade So Far: This was done in the fall of 2005. Since this was the halfway point for the decade, Live 105 counted down the biggest songs of the decade so far. I wasn't listening in 2009, but I can't find any evidence that they did a full list like this at decade's end. That would have been interesting to hear, given how much the music evolved over the course of the decade. Anyway, the only thing I remember about this list was that Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" clocked in somewhere, probably the last time the station ever played that band.

-The full Snacks and Tracks list: I already did writeup about this and you can see parts of it on this blog,  but I am curious about the full list. Most importantly, I want to see what snacks made the cut.

-Memorial Day 500 (2008): I actually do have parts of this list transcribed, and you'll see them when I get to 2008, but I can't find the full list anywhere. The only thing I did find was a similar list from 2009, which was after I stopped listening regularly. I've tried transcribing that one, but it doesn't translate well to a Pages document.

-Any other list that's not easily searchable online: Seriously, I do enjoy seeing this stuff.

BONUS: Live 105's Top 105 Bands We're Thankful For (from Thanksgiving 2005)

It's not at all surprising that Live 105 would run a countdown on the Thanksgiving holiday. What is surprising is the selections. In this period, Live 105 would have specialty weekends where they'd play  a bunch of artists that weren't alternative but were still wildly influential and weaved them in with their usual offerings.

I remember this being fun to listen to. Each selection was preceded by prerecorded statements from the DJs talking about how important all the artists were. If you ever wanted to hear The Beatles, Marvin Gaye or Led Zeppelin on Live 105...you'll probably want to look at this list because it will likely never happen again.
